Patient Information

Rousana® belongs to a class of drugs called statins. It works in two ways. Rousana® works by blocking an enzyme in the liver called HMG-CoA reductase, which leads to the liver making less cholesterol. It also works by increasing the liver's uptake of cholesterol from your blood and its breakdown.

What Rousana® is used for:

Rousana® is a prescription medication used to treat high cholesterol and prevent heart attacks and strokes. Rousana® tablets are used along with diet to:

  • lower the level of your “bad” cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, LDL)
  • increase the level of your “good” cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein, HDL)
  • lower the level of fat in your blood (triglycerides)
  • slow the buildup of fatty deposits (plaque) in the walls of blood vessels

Tell your doctor or pharmacist before using Rousana®if :

  • You have unexplained muscle aches or weakness
  • You have or have had kidney problems
  • You have or have had liver problems
  • You drink more than 2 glasses of alcohol daily
  • You have thyroid problems
  • You are taken any other medicines

Know all the medicines you take. Keep a list of them with you to show your doctor and pharmacist.

Also tell your healthcare provider if you are 65 years of age or older or are of Asian descent.

Who should not take Rousana®:

Do not take Rousana® if you:

  • Are allergic to rosuvastatin calcium or any of the ingredients in your Rousana® tablet
  • Have liver problems

How to take your Rousana®:

  • Take the tablets exactly as your doctor tells you to take it.
  • Take the tablets by mouth, 1 time each day. Swallow the tablet whole.
  • The tablets can be taken at any time of day, with or without food.
  • Do not change your dose or stop this medication without talking to your doctor, even if you are feeling well.
  • Your doctor may do blood tests to check your cholesterol levels before and during your treatment with r Rousana®. Your doctor may change your dose of it if needed.

Your doctor may start you on a cholesterol lowering diet before giving you Rousana®

  • Stay on this diet when you take this medication.

Wait at least 2 hours after taking Rousana®tablets to take an antacid that contains a combination of aluminum and magnesium hydroxide.

What to do if you forget to take a dose :

If you miss a dose of Rousana®, take it as soon as you remember. However, do not take 2 doses within 12 hours of each other.

While taking your medicine :

  • Call your doctor right away if you have any of the following symptoms of liver problems like feel unusually tired or weak, loss of appetite, upper belly pain, dark urine, yellowing of your skin or the whites of your eyes.
  • Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
  • Talk to your doctor before you start taking any new medicines.

Call your doctor right away if you have:

  • Unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, especially if you have a fever or feel more tired than usual, while you take this medication.
  • Muscle problems that do not go away even after your doctor has told you to stop taking this medication. Your doctor may do further tests to diagnose the cause of your muscle problems.
    Your chances of getting muscle problems are higher if:
  • You are taking certain other medicines while you take Rousana®
  • You are 65 years of age or older.
  • You have thyroid problems (hypothyroidism) that are not controlled.
  • You have kidney problems.
  • You are taking higher doses of this medication.

What to do if you take too many tablets :

Remember ALL medicines can be dangerous. If you or anyone else takes a large number of Rousana®tablets, seek medical advice at once. Anyone who has taken too many tablets should go to the nearest hospital accident and emergency department immediately, taking the box to show the doctor.

Side effects :

Serious side effects of Rousana® tablets include:

  • Muscle pain, tenderness and weakness (myopathy). Muscle problems, including muscle breakdown, can be serious in some people and rarely cause kidney damage that can lead to death.
  • Liver problems. Your doctor should do blood tests to check your liver before you start taking this medication and if you have symptoms of liver problems while you taking it.

The most common side effects of Rousana® tablets may include:

  • Headache
  • Huscle aches and pains
  • Abdominal pain
  • Weakness
  • Nausea

Additional side effects that have been reported with Rousana®tablets include memory loss and confusion.
